USAID Private Sector Development Project Helps Five Local Farms Deliver Fresh Produce to Supermarket
The USAID-funded Private Sector Development Project / Dezenvolve Setor Privadu (DSP) facilitated this past week, the first delivery of fresh produce to a local commerical supermarket. The products included carrots, cabbages, snow peas, beans and shallots coming from five farms in Aileu and Ainaro. This initiative is the result of an assessment that DSP conducted last year on the demand for fresh produce in Timor-Leste. It focuses on improving varieties, creating year round production, teaching appropriate post-harvest handling techniques, adding value for higher end marketing, and implementing a cold chain linkage.
