USAID Launches New Project Aimed at Private Sector Development.
USAID’s Dezenvolve Setór Privadu (DSP) program aimed at private sector development has been officially launched. The launch was attended by approximately 120 people, including five Timor-Leste cabinet ministers as well as other senior government officials, the ambassadors of United States and the United Kingdom, head of the European Commission, together with representatives of various UN and other agencies, and members of the private sector. A private sector representative speaking at the launch highlighted DSP’s assistance in the formation of the Timor-Leste Business Forum. It was also noted that DSP would provide the secretariat for the Business Forum, and would continue to support the development of the Forum in an effort to strengthen the country’s business environment. DSP is also supporting the financial services industry, commercial services, and investigating agribusiness opportunities for Timor-Leste. (Feb. 21, 2006)
