Government Information
Office Helps Disseminate Information about Oil
Field Bidding Process
The Ministry of Natural Resources, Minerals, and Energy Policy
collaborated with the Office of the Prime Minister on a media
event involving the announcement of the short list for tenders
on 11 of Timor-Leste’s oil fields. Despite receiving little
notice of the event, the trainees went through the process of
writing a media advisory, getting it approved, and distributing
it to the media in less than one day. The trainees also took
the lead in overseeing the organization of the press conference.
Efforts by the trainees demonstrated their understanding of
concepts learned in Government Information Office (GIO) training
and allowed them to practice and confirm new skills built under
the one-on-one mentoring relationship with the GIO trainers.
USAID supports GIO to train government information officers
to improve their communication with the country's residents
and deliver relevant messages from the government. (April 25,
