Legal Aid NGOs Focus on Most Vulnerable Populations
The Asia Foundation held the first roundtable meeting with its legal aid NGO partners since the recent crisis prompted tens of thousands of Dili residents to leave their homes. The NGO partners are continuing to provide legal assistance to the most vulnerable members of Timorese society, including eligible internally displaced persons with legal problems such as destruction of property and gender-based violence. The NGOs are also working with Office of Provedor and Gender-based Violence Network to respond to legal needs emerging during the current period of heightened tensions.
