Food Assistance
for Vulnerable Groups in Timor-Leste
A shipment of food assistance from the US (USAID/Food for Peace)
will help the World Food Program (WFP) in Timor-Leste continue
to provide meals to Timor-Leste‘s vulnerable groups, especially
malnourished children, pregnant women and lactating women, many
of whom ended up as internally displaced people after violence
broke out anew in April 2006. This shipment consisted of 670
metric tons of Corn Soya Blend (CSB) and 100 metric tons of
vegetable oil, which will be distributed by WFP across the country
under the Safety Net Program. The WFP’s Safety Net Program
provides food assistance to groups that are most vulnerable
to the long-term impacts of poverty and food insecurity.
USAID Supports How-to Guide for
Government Information Officers
USAID, through its Small Grants Program, has helped the Government
Information Office (GIO) produce a guidebook that aims to empower
government information officers with the appropriate communication
skills and practices they need to deliver the government’s
messages to the public. The guidebook covers proven tools of
the trade and shares helpful guidelines on how to manage and
produce press conferences, press releases, brochures, posters,
and other effective information products.
Commission for Friendship, Truth
and Reconciliation Gets Final Report, Chega!, Out to the People
At the end of October, the Commission for Friendship, Truth
and Reconciliation (CAVR), charged with the examination of events
in Timor-Leste from 1975-1999, completed its dissemination of
the final report, including findings and recommendations, to
eight districts and will distribute the report to four additional
districts by the end of the year. CAVR has also disseminated
its report to Indonesia, Scandinavia, Portugal, Ireland, Australia,
and Britain. USAID funded the printing of the executive summary
of the report, entitled Chega! or "Enough" in English,
and four other books that report on additional CAVR findings.
