“Buy Local Products Now” Campaign, In the lead-up to Timor-Leste’s Restoration of Independence Day, the USAID-funded Dezenvolve Setór Privadu or Private Sector Development (DSP) project launched the “Buy Local Products Now” campaign on May 17 at leading supermarkets in Dili. “Buy Local Products Now” is a campaign to promote and improve the image of high-quality Timorese products. DSP has been working closely with producers and Dili’s supermarkets to institute a “Producto Timor-Leste” seal that will represent high-quality local products as part of its effort to support the growth of local businesses and generate incomes for local communities. Nine local products have met the agreed upon quality standards and passed DSP-sponsored quality control inspection. They include: Cafe Timor (CCT), tofu, soya milk, Minutil virgin coconut oil, Cafe Kapa’as Lakoma, cassava chips, coconut soap, sea salt and Kor Timor handmade tais boxes. These products flew off the shelves during the campaign’s launch.
