Community-Oriented Policing Program Launched (20 January 2009)

In support of Timor-Leste’s security sector reform, USAID launched on January 14, 2009 a community policing program to help mitigate the threat of violent conflict in the country. Through the program, USAID hopes to increase interaction and partnership between police and community members, improve public security, and promote national dialogue on community-oriented policing. The Asia Foundation is implementing the $600,000- program for 18 months.
