Timor-Leste President Visits USAID-Funded Greenhouse

Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta visited the USAID-supported Lequitura Special Horticultural Area in the highland district of Aileu on February 7, 2009 and, together with U.S. Ambassador Hans G. Klemm and USAID Representative Mark A. White, held a dialogue with the community afterwards. The President thanked the U.S. Government for introducing state-of-the-art agricultural production technology to Timor-Leste. Since the project started in 2007, the greenhouse facilities and other agricultural technologies comprising the Special Horticultural Area have enabled a group of farmer households to triple their income from increased production of high-quality vegetables.
