Timor-Leste: USAID Presents Landmark Opinion Poll on Community-Police Relations to Security Sector Leaders (May 19, 2009)

USAID's community-oriented policing project, implemented by The Asia Foundation presented the landmark opinion survey on community-police perceptions to security sector leaders led by the Secretary of State for Security. In a half-day workshop, shareholders -- which included top officials of the national police, civil society security experts and village chiefs -- discussed the key findings of the opinion poll conducted by The Asia Foundation, which is implementing the $599,855, 18-month long project that aims to strengthen community-police relations. Interest in the survey's findings was high, given that there has been very little data available that could be useful for policymaking for police and security reform purposes.
