U.S. Ambassador Visits USAID Programs in the Country's Most Isolated District (May 26, 2009) On 26 May, Ambassador Hans G. Klemm distributed certificates to the trainers of the USAID-funded "Preparing Youth for Work," a combined classroom and on-the-job learning program for out-of-school rural youth, launched recently in the enclave of Oecusse with 100 youth participating. Ambassador Klemm then visited the new district hospital, one of the health facilities that are partnering with USAID's Basic Health Services/Child Spacing Project to raise awareness of child spacing benefits as well as improve the quality of family planning services available to the enclave's population. The Ambassador concluded his visit by attending, with the Secretary of State for Livestock, the distribution of bulls to about 100 farmers, formally signaling the expansion of USAID's cattle breeding operations to Oecusse.
