Minister of Justice Launches Public Display of Maps Showing Pilot Land Data Collection (4 June 2009)

The Minister of Justice, together with the National Directorate for Land, Property and Cadastral Services, launched on June 4, 2009 the public display of maps showing land claims registered in two pilot areas through a USAID-supported project. The public display is critical in ensuring the transparency of the land data collection process. The land maps, along with the names and photographs of each claimant, will be displayed for a period of six weeks, allowing those interested to contest claims. Through the five-year, $10 million "Strengthening Property Rights" project, USAID is supporting the Ministry of Justice to develop a land administration framework for Timor-Leste.
