Timor-Leste's Parliament passed the country's first land law in mid-February. The process to draft the legislation has been supported by USAID since 2003. In early February, the Ministry of Justice launched the public display of land claims in one of Dili's six subdistricts – the first such display by Ministry staff based on the successful urban land claim process initiated by USAID’s property rights project. Consistent with the project’s sustainability plan, the Ministry largely took over the project at the end of 2011.  The public display indicates the success of the main part of the transition from a USAID project to government ownership.
